Bruce started in the landscape business in 1986 at the age of fifteen when his uncle, Frank Otte, invited him from his hometown Houston, TX to work in Louisville, KY that summer. With the opportunities he was offered, he decided to stay and make Kentucky his new home. While completing his high school years at Eastern High and studying at the University of Louisville, Bruce continued to work at the Frank Otte Nursery in Middletown and for the commercial landscape division, learning a vast knowledge about plants and the landscape industry.

After a few years of serving in the military and working in management in other industries, Bruce came back to the family business and eventually became a partner and manager of the commercial landscape company in 2010. Later, in 2019, Bruce was offered the opportunity to take over management of the very successful, and highly recognized residential landscape company, Frank Otte Landscape & Design Group. With the already extremely motivated and talented designers and staff in place, the transition has been seamless.
